Welcome to the GO NATIVE! website.  We are the Backyard Wildlife Habitat Gardening Club of Boyertown/Gilbertsville and surrounding areasOur primary goal is to educate the public as to the benefits of using native plants in the landscape to restore habitat for wildlife into developed land.  Thus, by doing this, you will be able to enjoy wildlife - close-up - in your own yard; You will reduce yardwork, mowing, watering and use of fossile fuels; And you will eliminate the need for chemical fertilizers and pesticides.  The biggest and best part of native landscaping is that it is so child-friendly and educational... there is no better way to grab a child's interest than to let them plant a flower, show them how to nurture it, watch it grow, and see the catepillars, butterflies, birds, and insects that come to visit.  It's something they can do themselves, with a little help, no matter how young they are.

My name is Lori DeWalt.  I am director of GO NATIVE! .    As most people have noticed by now, Mother Earth needs a little help.  As the human population increases, all other populations are decreasing.  The problem is that Mother Earth doesn't have a voice to holler at us when it is needed.  So, just like animal activists (the animals can't speak either), we are 'assuming' that voice and speaking out for our environment.  However, we are not aggressive - we just have a light-hearted, fun gardening club.  We swap plants and ideas.  We visit each other's gardens.   Our members are totally awesome people who care about our environment and want to do their part to help without being overwhelmed.
About GO NATIVE! Backyard Wildlife Habitat Gardening Club

Our meetings have been temporarily suspended due to the economy.  Don't forget to check our "What's New" page for exciting new events and meeting topics!

Membership is 3 dollars for the year to cover our copying costs.  We have a folder for our members with informative handouts at every meeting.  Shipping is 3 dollars if you want to order it by mail.  As of our last  meeting the folder includes:  "What Exactly is a Native Plant?," "Native Plant Starter List," "How to Attract Butterflies," "Habitat Inventory," "Hummingbirds," "Composting (with a fridge magnet of do's and don'ts)," "Bats Got a Bad Rap," " Turf Grass - Without Fertilizer or Herbicides," "Beneficial Insects," "Controlling Slugs," "National Wildlife Federation Backyard Habitat Certification," "Local Wildlife Rehabilitation Centers," and more.  There are lists of resources for internet, books, and much more, also.  I am adding a page to the website tonight called, "What is in the Folder?"  Please check it out!  It has a list of everything in our folder.
